Celebrate Grandparents Day with scoops and sports
Published on August 06, 2026
Grandparents and grandchildren are invited to spend an evening playing, laughing and creating memories together during the Grandparents Day Ice Cream Social on Friday, Sept. 11.
Hosted by the City of North Port Parks & Recreation Department, the annual event gives families an opportunity to slow down, enjoy time together and celebrate the important role grandparents play in the lives of their grandchildren.
This year’s sports theme brings a playful twist to the celebration. Families can enjoy frozen custard provided by Culver's, create sports-themed crafts and play bingo. Grandparents and grandchildren can also team up for kid-friendly sports challenges featuring soccer, football, cornhole and other activities. No athletic experience is needed, and activities are designed so everyone can join the fun.
A photo booth will give families a place to capture a special memory from the evening. Guests are encouraged to wear a favorite team’s jersey, colors or sports apparel, whether they support a professional team, local school or youth sports program.
The Grandparents Day Ice Cream Social will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Morgan Family Community Center, 6207 W. Price Blvd. The event is open to grandparents attending with grandchildren ages 4 and older. Admission is $6 per person.
Space is limited, and advance registration is required. Families can learn more and register at NorthPortFL.gov/GrandparentsDay.
