Natural Resources

The Natural Resources Division is dedicated to the stewardship of the city’s natural resources, ensuring their conservation, protection, management and utilization for the enrichment and enjoyment of present and future generations.

The Natural Resources team recently installed a new air quality station for North Port!

Powered by PurpleAir, the sensor has already begun tracking numerous metrics for air quality. In particular, Natural Resources is tracking PM2.5 levels. PM2.5 refers to fine particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 micrometers or smaller. These particles can be harmful to human health when inhaled, as they can penetrate deep into the lungs and even enter the bloodstream. Monitoring PM2.5 levels is important for evaluating the overall air quality in the City. Take a look at the interactive map below.

Mosquito Management

Mosquitoes pose a particular challenge in Southwest Florida due to the region’s warm and humid climate. In the City of North Port, the responsibility for mosquito management falls under the jurisdiction of Sarasota County. The County’s Mosquito Management Services website can serve as a valuable resource, providing extensive information about their mosquito control measures, including the timing, locations, and methods for their spraying and treatment procedures. Additionally, the website offers a feature for residents to register for notifications about upcoming treatments, and request services for specific areas.
