Garbage & Recycling

Our Purpose Statement

To promote clean and healthy neighborhoods through solid waste management.

Who We Are

The Solid Waste Division is part of the Public Works Department for the City of North Port and is the working entity which provides service to you. The Solid Waste District is the taxing authority for solid waste services. The primary revenue source for the District is a non-ad valorem assessment. For all residential real property that have a certificate of occupancy, the current assessment is $302.50 per fiscal year.

What We Do

The Solid Waste Division is responsible for the collection of garbage, recyclable material, yard waste and bulk items (furniture, etc.) within the City limits of North Port. Residential garbage, recycling and yard waste are picked up once a week. Bulk collection service is available on a pre-scheduled basis only. Each residence is allowed two free bulk collections per year, each limited to 5 cubic yards. Additional paid collections may also be scheduled. Commercial garbage and recycling collection services are offered from one to five times per week.

Solid Waste enjoys teaching the North Port community about recycling, driver safety and how our trucks operate. If your organization, school or daycare would like to learn about recycling and get a visit from Solid Waste, please contact Public Works Customer Service. Learn more about our Solid Waste Presentations.
