Water Quality
North Port's principle sources of raw water supply are surface water from the Myakkahatchee Creek that flows through the City of North Port and six intermediate ground water wells. The City also purchases treated surface water from the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority. This water is treated at the Peace River Water Treatment Plant in DeSoto County before it is sent to North Port.
North Port Utilities takes very seriously, our responsibility to send our customers the very best quality water. The City is required to abide by drinking water standards, monitoring and reporting requirements and procedures established by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Finished water quality is monitored and reported on a monthly basis to the Sarasota Department of Health, a section of the Florida DEP.
As new challenges to drinking water safety emerge, such as drought, we remain vigilant in meeting the challenges of source water protection and water conservation. We are dedicated to our obligation to give you the best water quality and we will continue to look at ways to further improve the water we deliver to you.
Please contact the Utility Department at (941) 240-8000 for more water quality information and if you would like to take a tour of our water treatment facility.
