Dallas White Park Multi-Purpose Field & ADA Enhancements Open

The City of North Port Parks & Recreation Department officially celebrated the completion of a new multipurpose athletic field and ADA accessibility enhancements at Dallas White Park during a “First Kick” ceremony Monday afternoon.
The project transformed an underused softball field into a regulation-size multipurpose field designed to support soccer, football and other recreational programming while improving accessibility throughout the park for residents of all abilities.
As North Port continues to grow, so does demand for athletic field space. In fiscal year 2025, the City recorded 3,527 field reservations and served approximately 3,700 youth sports participants, including 2,138 soccer athletes. After reviewing reservation trends, usage data and community feedback, Parks & Recreation identified a growing need for additional rectangular field space.
“This project reflects our commitment to listening to community needs and ensuring our parks evolve alongside our growing city,” said Jeff Nelson, Parks & Grounds Manager. “By converting underused space into a field that better aligns with demand, we’re creating more opportunities for youth sports and recreation while improving accessibility for all residents.”
Funded primarily through park impact fees, the approximately $1.45 million project also included drainage improvements, new sod and irrigation, fencing, goals, LED lighting, electrical upgrades and ADA enhancements throughout the park.
During the ceremony, the City also recognized project partners who helped bring the improvements to life, including Wharton-Smith Construction and DMK Associates.
