NORTH PORT, FL - Detwiler's Farm Market is coming to the City of North Port.

The family-owned and operated chain of local grocery stores has signed a lease agreement on a 52,000-square-foot standalone store that will be built to anchor a new retail center coming to the northwest corner of Sumter Boulevard and Interstate 75.

The news was announced at Monday's City Commission workshop as part of an update from North Port’s Economic Development Division. The Sentinel Fund, a commercial real estate investment firm developing the 35-acre parcel at 5001 N. Sumter Blvd., is in talks with additional national retailers still to be announced as tenants.

“Our conversations with the developer began at a conference we attended more than 18 months ago in Orlando,” said Economic Development Manager Michael Meerman. “It’s exciting to see those efforts result in the kind of quality shopping and dining options that our residents have wanted here in North Port for years.”

The new Detwiler’s will be the market's eighth location in Sarasota and Manatee counties, and its largest. It is expected to generate 125 jobs in North Port.

“This is a big step forward for us,” said Sam Detwiler, company president. “North Port is growing quickly, and we’re looking forward to growing alongside it — bringing our quality, value and unique shopping experience to even more families."

The site plan application is under review by City staff, who will continue to work with the applicant as the site is developed. The new Detwiler's Farm Market is anticipated to open in the fourth quarter of 2028.
