NORTH PORT, FL - With the Atlantic Hurricane Season right around the corner, the City of North Port will host a special event to help residents prepare and gain a better understanding about how our stormwater system works.

The Stormwater 101 & Storm Preparedness Town Hall will be held Wednesday, May 20, from 6-8 p.m. at Suncoast Technical College, 4445 Career Lane.

The Town Hall will feature presentations from subject matter experts with Emergency Management and Public Works who will cover the basics, share how the City prepares for storm season and give you practical tips for protecting your home and family. There will also be a Q&A session to address your questions and concerns.

North Port has a complex stormwater management system and unique hydrology. The City has created a Stormwater 101 webpage at NorthPortFL.gov/Stormwater and has written a blog post to help residents understand the various components and how they work.

The community is also encouraged to visit NorthPortFL.gov/Alerts to view preparedness tips and sign up to receive emergency notifications ahead of hurricane season, which begins June 1.

The Town Hall is part of a quarterly series offered in 2026 to provide clear and transparent communication and education on topics that residents have told us matter most to them. To learn more about the series, view upcoming quarterly topics and find other ways to engage with the City, visit NorthPortFL.gov/EngageHub.
