The North Port Parks & Recreation Department invites residents of all ages to discover a variety of exciting programs this fall. Whether you want to learn archery, experience guided kayak tours or gain lifesaving certification, there is something for everyone.
Adult Archery offers two sessions for beginners to develop focus and technique with USA Archery certified instructors. Sessions run Thursdays, Sept. 11 to Oct. 2, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. or Saturdays, Sept. 13 to Oct. 4, from 9 to 10 a.m. All equipment is provided; the fee is $30 per session. Classes meet at the Morgan Family Community Center, 6207 W. Price Blvd.
For younger beginners, Beginning Archery sessions for ages 8 to 17 will be held at the George Mullen Activity Center, 1602 Kramer Way. Choose from sessions from Tuesdays, Oct. 7-28, or Thursdays, Oct. 9-30. Classes run from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. The fee is $30 per session and all equipment is provided.
Teens ages 11 to 15 can earn valuable certifications through the Babysitter Certification & CPR course in collaboration with the American Red Cross. The course includes pediatric first aid, CPR training and leadership skills. Sessions are offered Sept. 12-13 and Nov. 7-8 at the Morgan Family Community Center. Registration is required and the fee is $75. Must participate in both days to receive certification.
Adults and teens can also take the First Aid CPR and AED Training course on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Morgan Family Community Center. This American Red Cross-certified course meets OSHA workplace requirements and includes hands-on training. Class size is limited to 10. The fee is $60.
Explore nature with North Port Eco-Adventures, a guided kayak tour that lets participants learn about local flora and fauna while paddling scenic waterways. Tours cost $10 per person with kayak rental or $5 if you bring your own kayak. The next tour is scheduled for Oct. 11 from 8 to 10 a.m. All ages are welcome.
For children interested in sports but unsure which to try, the Intro to Sports program introduces the basics of popular youth sports. Classes are for kindergarten through fifth grade and take place Wednesdays from Oct. 29 to Nov. 19, 6 to 7 p.m. at the George Mullen Activity Center. The fee is $25.
