Playground replacement project to begin at Pine Park on March 18
Published on March 12, 2026
The City of North Port Parks & Recreation Department will begin replacement work on the Pine Park playground on Wednesday, March 18. The project is part of the City’s ongoing Playground Replacement Program included in the five-year Capital Improvement Program.
The existing playground, installed in 2015, is at the end of its typical lifespan.
The project includes removing the current equipment and installing new play structures designed to serve neighborhood families for years to come, offering updated features and enhanced accessibility.
Funding for the $225,000 project comes from a voter‑approved Surtax allocation. Because playground replacement is considered maintenance and reinvestment, rather than capacity expansion, it does not qualify for Park Impact Fee funding.
During construction, the playground area at Pine Park will be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of park visitors and construction crews. Other areas of the park will remain open.
"The Parks & Recreation Department appreciates the community’s patience as improvements are made and looks forward to welcoming families back to a refreshed play space soon," said Kimberly Lencki, Community Partnership & Engagement Manager.
