North Port celebrates GIS Day with interactive event
Published on November 14, 2024
The City of North Port will celebrate innovative applications of geographic information system (GIS) technology during a GIS Day event on Nov. 20 from 2-6 p.m. at the Morgan Family Community Center, 6207 W. Price Blvd.
GIS programs are part of every day life, whether it's checking traffic, finding your garbage day or looking at this weekend's weather. For City staff, it's also vital for daily work. From police drone operations, to gopher tortoise sightings or mapping new development, GIS is part of more than one would think.
"GIS is more than just maps," GIS Administrator Jon Kalfsbeck said. "It's a resource to help pinpoint patterns or trends, find a bad guy or help a resident find the closest fire station. It's vital to everyday life."
Various City departments and community groups will be on hand with information and giveaways. Food trucks will be there as well.
Join us to help celebrate celebrate the impactful work of GIS professionals and ignite the imagination of the future innovators who will further advance global progress using GIS.
