A burn ban is currently in effect for the City of North Port. There is also a lawn watering restriction set by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD).
The North Port Police Department holds a Quadruple Excelsior Accreditation from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, the highest and most rigorous achievement for a department in Florida. If every dollar of property tax revenue collected by the City last year were dedicated to NPPD alone, it still would not fully cover the department's budget.
North Port EMS is funded by ad valorem property taxes and is separate from your non ad valorem Fire Rescue assessment. The cardiac arrest survival rate in North Port is currently about 50%, which exceeds the state of Florida’s goal of 30%.
North Port Emergency Management is responsible for coordinating disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation efforts. It educates residents and businesses on emergency planning and readiness and works closely with local, state and federal partners to ensure public safety and resilience. The division is funded by property taxes.
North Port Parks & Recreation is responsible for the maintenance and operation of more than 25 parks and open spaces that are funded and supported by property taxes. In 2025, more than 850,000 visits were made to North Port parks and playgrounds.
North Port property taxes fund the City's Facilities Maintenance team that repairs and cares for over 50 public buildings citywide. The team handles groundskeeping of various City-owned facilities and supports City events.
The Morgan Family Community Center and George Mullen Activity Center are supported by property taxes. The two facilities hosted more than 350,000 visitors last year for community events, recreational and youth programs, fitness activities, summer camps and more.
