North Port Parks & Recreation invites residents and visitors to experience the City’s natural waterways through two upcoming kayaking programs designed for both beginners and seasoned paddlers.

North Port Aquatics Manager Devon Poulos said the programs give participants an opportunity to connect with nature while learning new skills. “Our team is proud to offer safe, welcoming programs that help people enjoy the outdoors and explore the beauty of North Port,” Poulos said.

North Port Eco Adventures: Eco Adventures will take place on Saturdays offering two sessions, one from 8 to 10 a.m. and another from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Jan. 10, Jan. 24, April 4 and April 18. A Sunday tour will be offered Feb. 15 from 8 to 10 a.m.

Participants will enjoy guided tours that highlight local flora and fauna. The fee is $10 per person with a kayak provided or $5 per person for those who bring their own. The start location will be announced at a later date.

Learn to Yak: Learn to Yak is a six-week introductory course for those new to kayaking. The program begins Saturday, Jan. 31 and continues every Saturday through March 7 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the North Port Aquatic Center and Myakkahatchee Creek.

Participants will learn paddling basics and water safety from trained staff. Instruction starts in the heated competition pool, then moves to Myakkahatchee Creek for guided paddling in a natural setting. The cost is $75 for North Port residents and $100 for nonresidents. The program is open to ages 10 and older, and kayaks are provided.

Space is limited for both programs, and early registration is encouraged. Participants can register at NorthPortFL.gov/NaturePrograms.

These programs offer a unique opportunity to learn new skills, enjoy time on the water and experience the natural beauty of North Port.
