North Port's Bird Guide

Tucked beneath a thick oak and pine canopy, the City of North Port is home to more than 96,000 residents. North Port boasts a robust wildlife population with bobcats, raccoons, squirrels, deer and more. Birds and bird watching are a family favorite activity in this up-and-coming community.

There are plenty of spots to watch birds, including all of North Port's parks and open spaces. The Myakka State Forest also offers plenty of opportunity to see birds in their natural habitat.

Explore eBird.orga helpful resource to find more birds, track your bird lists, photos and sounds, and join a global birding community contributing to science and conservation. eBird is a free, global online platform developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that allows users to record, share and explore bird observations. It connects a worldwide community of birders while generating real-time data on bird distribution and abundance, supporting research, conservation and public engagement with nature.

Another free online resource is iNaturalist.org, where you can document the animals, plants and insects you discover. Simply take a photo, upload your observation and contribute to a growing database that supports research and conservation efforts. Every observation, no matter how small, helps build a clearer picture of North Port’s natural environment.

We also encourage residents to explore the City of North Port’s BioBlitz projects throughout the year. Visit the Nature Programs webpage to see which species have already been recorded, learn about ongoing efforts and find opportunities to participate in future events focused on documenting local wildlife.
