Hurricane/Natural Disaster Resources

• Access disaster preparedness resources at PrepareFL.com. 
• Visit the City's Emergency Management page for additional resources and information.
• Download Sarasota County's Emergency Preparedness Guide(PDF, 2MB).
• Get Weather Ready Nation information from NOAA.
• Download the North Report App to report issues, submit service requests and receive more important updates from the City.
• Make sure your pets are set to go before a storm.
• See illegal gouging happening during an emergency? Report it online or call (866) 966-7226.
• Find emergency resources for businesses.
• Learn about FEMA's flood map updates on our Flood Information page.

Separate debris into six categories:

• Household hazardous waste
• Electronics
• Appliances
• Construction & demolition debris
• Vegetative debris
• Everyday household trash

Helpful hints for hurricane debris collection:

• Do not stack or lean debris near trees, poles, fire hydrants, meters, or other structures, as this can make removal difficult.
• If there is no sidewalk, ditch, or utility line in front of your house, place debris at the edge of your property before the curb.
• Debris should be placed curbside without blocking the roadway or storm drains.
• Any debris placed from the sidewalk toward your property will not be picked up (no pickup zone).
• Regular household trash and bagged debris will not be picked up with disaster debris. Follow your regular garbage removal schedule for those items.

The deadlines for both FEMA Individual Assistance and Small Business Administration assistance applications was Jan. 12, 2023. To coincide with the application deadline, the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Shannon Staub Library, 4675 Career Lane, North Port, closed permanently on Jan. 12.

Hurricane Ian Recovery and Relief Fund

The Hurricane Ian Recovery and Relief Fund has been established by United Way of South Sarasota County to assist individuals and families in North Port who have experienced an unbudgeted and unexpected expense, a layoff, unexpected loss of income or other financial hardship due to Hurricane Ian. Eligible expenditures would include basic needs such as rent or mortgage, utilities, or minor essential home repairs.

Residents interested in seeking assistance from this fund should call Social Services at 941-429-3700 to be pre-screened by staff.
