Bulk Pickup

Each residence is offered two free bulk pickups per fiscal year (Oct 1-Sept 30), with a limit of 5 cubic yards (about 5’ x 5’ x 5’) each, or one free bulk pick up of up to 10 cubic yards. Additional pick ups are available for a fee of $16.50 per cubic yard, plus a fixed $16.50 admin fee. To schedule a bulk pickup, please read the guidelines below and submit the request form or call Public Works Customer Service at 941-240-8050.   If you need a courtesy bulk collection of Cardboard Only, please visit our recycling page for the online request form.

Bulk waste is material that does not fit in your garbage tote with the lid closed, exceeds the container’s maximum 200-pound weight limit or does not meet the yard waste guidelines (for more information or to request a yard waste bulk pick up, please see our yard waste guidelines). Bulk includes appliances, TVs, furniture, mattresses and other unwanted household items.

  • Lawn equipment – remove gas and oil.
  • Refrigerators and freezers – remove doors and all food.

Before placing items in the right-of-way, bulk pickups must be scheduled in advance by submitting the request form or by calling Public Works at 941-240-8050. Requests received after hours, weekends or holidays, will not be received until the next business day. After scheduling, bulk pick ups will occur on your normal collection day. If bulk items are placed in the right-of-way without being scheduled, they will be collected, but it may result in a fee. Once the collection is scheduled, the items should be placed curbside no earlier than 48 hours before your scheduled pick up. If items are placed curbside prior to this, you may receive a Violation Notice from the Property Standards Division. To ensure collection, please have items placed curbside by 7 a.m. the day of collection.

When placing items curbside, ensure that they are not under any wires, low hanging trees/branches or next to any other objects (i.e. power pole, mailbox). If requesting a garbage bulk pick up AND a yard waste bulk pick up, please make sure the yard waste is placed separately.

Not accepted: Tires, paint, propane tanks, hazardous waste or commercial waste. Call for info about disposing of these items.

Estimates available: If you're unsure of how large your bulk pick up may be, an estimate may be requested. Call Customer Service prior to your collection day and ask for a bulk pick up estimate, and we'll be happy to come out and measure your material.
